I think that award applications, press releases and speeches is something that’s become common for a content executive as content is seen as a broad skill and so can be applied to many areas of writing. Though if this is something you’re not comfortable with, then perhaps raise it with your line manager or look at ways to improve on these development areas.

Content writers typically create content for the Web. This content can include sales copy, e-books, podcasts, and text for graphics. Content writers use various Web formatting tools, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and content management systems to help create their work. Content writers produce the content for many different types of websites, including blogs, social networks, e-commerce sites, news aggregators, and college websites.
Check your local college or university for a technical writing certificate program. Look at the faculty of the program to confirm you are being taught by professionals in the field or working content writers who are familiar with the demands of the writing industry. Certificate programs can be beneficial for writers who are new to content writing or technical writing.[6]
Use a newspaper article from a local publication or an online publication and break it down based on the upside triangle structure of a typical newspaper article. Does the article conform to the traditional structure or does it use a different structure or form? Does the writer seem credible and believable? Does the article use reputable sources and quotes to support any arguments in the article?

I have previously worked as a copy writer and my current position is content development. In my current position, I work at a fairly progressive, young and energetic company. In this company I do both content development and copy writing. I am of the opinion that having a distinction between the two roles to be a more old school way of thinking. Especially in this day and age it is important to be flexible and adaptable, even more so if you are a writer. I think that people who are stuck being on one side of the coin and refusing to adapt will be left behind and be out of a job in 10 years time.
